Educational actions aimed at improving information on some aspects of adolescent sexuality

Introduction: addressing the challenges of adolescent sex education means taking immediate action to improve information about adolescents’ sexuality. Objective: evaluate educational actions aimed at improving information on some aspects of adolescent sexuality. Methods: intervention study conducted at the Family Doctor’s Office 3.9 of Quemado de Güines from September 2016 to September 2017. The universe consisted of 57 adolescents between 14 and 16 years of age; 36 adolescents of both sexes were selected by a non-probability sampling. A group of educational actions aimed at improving information on adolescent sexuality in the study group were designed and implemented based on the results of the entry and exit questionnaire. The results obtained before and after the educational actions performed were processed and the percentages and the coefficient of variation were calculated. Results: the average age of the adolescents was 14.6 years; the level of information reached was high with respect to physical development (50%), to the risks of early pregnancy (63%), to contraceptive methods (55.5%) and to safe sex (52.7%), as well as the level of satisfaction with the educational actions performed. Conclusions: the educational actions managed to raise the level of information in most of the group and a high degree of satisfaction was reached with the actions carried out, which bids its development under real conditions and in other similar contexts to improve information on sexuality in adolescents.Downloads
