Pneumoperitoneum in a preterm newborn with very low birth weight

It is reported the case of a preterm neonate with a birth weight of less than 1500g who after the first nine days of life began with symptoms of intolerance of the digestive tract and abdominal distension. Pneumoperitoneum was diagnosed and the neonate underwent early surgery. Updated bibliography was consulted. The infant progressed satisfactorily.
