Villa Clara and its Medical Congresses. Scientific Identity in the General Scope from 1950 to 1966

Introduction: The history of medicine in Villa Clara contains events and processes that contribute to the history of Cuban medicine. The holding of Medical Congresses is among the scientific traditions that illustrate the quality of the professional practice of Villa Clara physicians
Objective: To demonstrate the scientific tradition of health professionals in Villa Clara as expressed through their contributions to Medical Congresses from 1950 to 1966.
Methods: A comprehensive documentary review was conducted in provincial and national institutions, as well as in the personal archives of prominent figures in the Medical Sciences. Family members of historical figures were interviewed. These methods and techniques were complemented by others of a theoretical nature. Source triangulation was performed to ensure the scientific rigor of the information.
Results: The study describes relevant aspects of the scientific tradition of health professionals in Villa Clara, including their participation in Medical Congresses. These events form part of the identity of the Medical Sciences in the region.
Conclusions: As an expression of the scientific development of medicine in Villa Cara, the professionals demonstrated their contributions through their leading role in both territorial and national medical congresses.
