Pregnancy in adolescence: a current psychological approach

This study aims at describing, from a psychological point of view, a population of pregnant adolescents who were treated at the Ramon Pando Ferrer Teaching polyclinic in Santa Clara municipality, Villa Clara province, during the period from January to December 2009. The totality of the population formed by 50 pregnant adolescents was involved in the study, with their informed consent. The techniques used in the investigation process were the Coopersmith Self-Esteem Inventory, the Ways of Coping with Stress Questionnaire, and the Psychological Wellbeing Questionnaire. Among the main findings, it was determined a prevalence of an average self-esteem level in correspondence with the mid-stage of adolescence The variable concerning the way of coping with stress had results that were not adequate in all stages of adolescence. Satisfaction, perceived from the assessment of the different psychological indicators such as: general satisfaction, material, labor and personal-social satisfaction, sexual, partner and family satisfaction, had disaccording results.Downloads
