Abstract

The syndrome of the superior vena cava is the set of signs and symptoms resulting from the partial or complete obstruction of the superior vena cava. Early diagnosis is critical for effective treatment and is characterized by dyspnea and the classic triad of edema in short cape, facial cyanosis and thoraco-brachial collateral circulation. Imaging techniques are used for diagnosis and a histological diagnosis is needed for confirmation. Treatment should be as early as possible. This paper describes a case admitted to the Intensive Care Unit 2 of our hospital with thrombosis due to central venous catheter. It is important to consider the possibility of this complication and identify it in time to treat it because the disorders arising from this syndrome can threaten the life of the patient.
