The training of specialists (residency regime) was organized by the Ministry of Public Health in 1962, and along more than 48 years it has allowed the development of large and skilled human resources. The specialty also requires appropriate approaches and teaching and learning methods. It is a type of postgraduate program that is characterized in the National Health System by a high rigor in updating and improving knowledge of the field and the creation of more specific skills in order to perform the modes of action described in the model of the specialist. It is a response from the Cuban public health to the needs arising from its own development. This specialist also delves into the research methods to enhance the effectiveness of his work and ensure the production of new knowledge in order to guarantee quality standards as a provider of health services. Postgraduate education is the highest level of the educational system; its essential objective is the postgraduate academic training and the continuous improvement of university graduates in their professional life, contributing systematically to the increase in productivity, efficiency and quality of work.Downloads
