Risk factors associated with cerebrovascular disease in patients of the "Marta Abreu" Polyclinic
Keywords:
acidente vascular cerebral, risk factors, cerebral infarctionAbstract
Introduction: cerebrovascular diseases constitute a global health problem with an increasing tendency. It is estimated that by the year 2025 the world population over 60 will increase to 1,2 million, which, together with other factors, suggests that the incidence and economic cost of these diseases will rise. Objective: to describe the behavior of some risk factors associated with cerebrovascular disease. Method: a descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out in patients of “Marta Abreu” Polyclinic from January 2015 to July 2017, the population under study was composed of 191 patients discharged due to cerebrovascular disease belonging to this health area and the sample included 152, for their selection the inclusion and exclusion criteria were taken into account and a questionnaire was applied on the risk factors of cerebrovascular disease. For the statistical processing, frequency and contingency tables were constructed that allowed to describe the behavior of the variables under study, as well as the Chi squared test to determine their relationship and to describe the behavior of their distribution. Results: predominantly were patients 60-69 years of age, male (48, 31,6%), those who suffered cerebral infarction (78, 51,3%) and patients who had a personal pathological history of hypertension (119, 78,3%). Conclusions: cerebrovascular accidents were more frequent in elderly patients, males, smokers with a family history of cerebrovascular disease and personal hypertension; cerebral infarction was the most frequent.Downloads
