Introduction: diabetes mellitus is an important cause of disability and death. It is estimated that by the year 2030 it will surpass the figure of 435 million people. Approximately 60 to 70% of these patients have some degree of neuropathy; in its treatment, analgesics, antidepressants, anticonvulsants and traditional therapies such as acupuncture and medicinal plants are used. Objective: to evaluate the therapeutic results of the use of pharmacopuncture in the treatment of peripheral polyneuropathy in patients with diabetes mellitus type 2. Method: a descriptive, prospective, longitudinal, quasi-experimental development study was carried out at “Comandante Manuel Fajardo Rivero” Hospital in Santa Clara from October 2010 to September 2014. The sample consisted of 66 patients, through a non-probabilistic method, by criteria. The inclusion to each group was done in a random way. The treatment was carried out with vitamins B1, B6 and B12. The patients in the study group were administered 0.3cc in acupunctural points, depending on the diagnosis by Zang Fu, and the control group 1cc of each one intramuscularly; all for 10 treatment sessions. Results: patients in the study group presented more favorable clinical course in a short time of remission. The main adverse events were presented in the control group. The therapeutic results of the study group were satisfactory in a larger number of patients than in the control group. Conclusions: satisfactory therapeutic results were achieved with the use of pharmacopuncture in the treatment of diabetic peripheral polyneuropathy.Downloads
