Brief review on the history of Urology in Villa Clara, background and current challenges

Introduction: in the 60's in Villa Clara Province was established the Urology Service in the Celestino Hernandez Robau Hospital; at present, it is widespread throughout the province and has its fundamental axis in the Arnaldo Milián Castro Hospital. Objective: to make known in more depth the different events related to Urology in Villa Clara. Method: a review of the files was carried out and the professionals with more years of experience were interviewed. Development: in the 60's, Dr. Julio César Vigil Quiñones performed his social service verticalized in this specialty. The scientific-technological development has been present in all Urology moments and has made possible the emergence of new means as well as the implementation of new surgical techniques to improve the quality of life. Conclusions: the achieved advances have favorably rebounded the Cuban and Villa Clara population, specifically because they have improved the quality of life for the patients treated.Downloads
