Abstract

An intervention study was conducted in order to assess the level of knowledge gained after the implementation of an educational intervention in men who have sex with men for preventing acquired immunodeficiency syndrome in the Family Doctor Consulting Office 43-1, from the Basic Working Group No. 3, belonging to the Marta Abreu University Polyclinic in Santa Clara, from June 2010 to May 2012. The universe was made up of 31 men who have sex with men, there was a non-probabilistic incidental sampling, and the sample of study was formed by 20 subjects. The questionnaire on preventing acquired immunodeficiency syndrome was applied before and after the intervention. Statistically, Chi-square and McNemar test, with its significance, were used. The ages between 40-49 years predominated, and information needs in relation to acquired immunodeficiency syndrome were expressed. Before the intervention, there was ignorance on the topic, and after it, there was an adequate knowledge in the majority of participants. It is concluded that the intervention was effective to train men who have sex with men.
