Abstract

Introduction: Ear reconstruction is a thrilling topic which represents a challenge for the maxillofacial surgeon in modern medicine. Because of its projection and exposure out of the corporal shape, the earlobe is vulnerable to an infinity number of injuries and traumatic ones are the most frequent. Case report: The case of a thirty-two years old female patient with an avulsive injury on her left earlobe caused by a human bite is reported. She underwent a surgical procedure with a retroauricular pedunculated flap on the mastoid described by Dieffenbach. The reconstruction procedure was made in two surgical times with good results and a complete satisfaction of the patient. Conclusions: The use of this technique is an effective reconstruction method which fallows the most important principles, such as a good esthetic result and functionality, reinforcing its great versatility into the reconstructive spectrum.
