Abstract

The cases of multiple sclerosis which clinically, radiologically, and even pathologically simulate a tumor are rare. They regularly appear in the spinal cord, and have double incidence at cervical level. The case of spinal cord demyelinating pseudotumor in a 37-year-old female patient is reported. The complication that affected the prognosis of the patient was the medullar extension, and a post-mortem diagnosis of the lesion. The extensive lesions near the junction of the cervical spinal cord and medulla are lethal because they affect vasomotor and respiratory centers nearby. Early recognition facilitates the treatment and prevention of respiratory complications that are frequent in these patients.
