Psychoeducational needs in parents of adolescents diagnosed with neurotic disorders

Introduction: neurotic disorders, among the mental disorders, constitute a worrying situation due to the consequences they bring to the personal, family and social order.Objective: to characterize the psychoeducational needs of parents of adolescents between 12 and 15 years of age diagnosed with neurotic disorders at the Adolescent Clinic of the "José Luis Miranda" Pediatric Hospital in the period from June to November 2019.
Methods: descriptive study - cross section. The population consisted of 120 families and the sample was made up of 26 parents of adolescents from 12 to 15 years of age diagnosed with neurotic disorders, selected in a non-probabilistic way according to criteria. The variable psycho-educational needs was used, and indicators were taken into account: family functions, educational styles or methods, communication, responsibility, aggressive behavior, anger management and conflict resolution. We used diagnostic family interviews, direct observation, semi-structured interviews and social work with the selected sample. Data processing was done by means of the statistical package SPSS version 20.
Results: inadequate psychoeducational needs predominated (84.6%), among the main causes were inadequate family functions, educational styles or methods, communication, responsibility, aggressive behavior, anger management and conflict resolution.
Conclusions: in the selected sample, inadequate psycho-educational needs prevailed based on the results of their indicators.
