Abstract

Periodontitis is a multifactorial disease resulting from the interaction of periodontal pathogenic bacteria with the mechanisms of host immune response. The new elements that characterize the focus on its pathogenesis attribute the genetic pattern to determine the host response to bacterial attack. The susceptibility to certain periodontal pathogens due to the inability to generate protective antibody titers against them by the host it is considered may be under genetic control. It is presented an update on genetic risk factor in the different forms of periodontitis ranging from different genetic polymorphisms in chronic and aggressive forms, to the various syndromes among its oral manifestations, having the deep chronic inflammatory periodontal disease.
