Cardiovascular complications in patients with chronic kidney disease on hemodialysis
Keywords:
renal insufficiency, chronic, renal dialysis, cardiovascular diseasesAbstract
The occurrence of cardiovascular events is 10 to 30 times higher in hemodialysis patients than in the general population and these are the leading cause of death. Based on this problem an observational, descriptive, longitudinal and prospective study was conducted to describe the cardiovascular complications in patients with chronic kidney disease who initiated hemodialysis during the period from January to December 2014 in the Department of Nephrology of “Arnaldo Milián Castro” Hospital; the population consisted of 63 patients with chronic kidney disease, stage V. It was concluded with a predominance of male patients, white skin and aged between 50 and 69 years; diabetic nephropathy was the most common cause of chronic kidney disease; cardiovascular complications in diabetic patients prevailed and during the procedure the hypotension and left ventricular dysfunction were the most frequent and cardiovascular mortality was the most prevalent.Downloads
