This investigation was carried out with the aim of characterising, from a clinical and epidemiological point of view, a population of pregnant adolescents from the Ramón Pando Ferrer Teaching Policlinic in Santa Clara municipality, Villa Clara province, during the period from January to December 2009. The total population formed by 50 pregnant adolescents was studied, with informed consent. The techniques used in the investigation were: a thorough analysis of the pre and post-natal medical histories, the clinical observation and a semi-structured interview. Among the most important findings, it was determined that pregnancy appeared mainly in the late stage, there was a prevalence of single adolescents, a medium schooling level and being a homemaker. It was noticed that the menarche appeared early and sexual relations were developed mainly during the middle stage of adolescence. Anemia and vaginal infections were the most frequent illnesses associated to pregnancy and it was seen a higher incidence during the stage of the mid-adolescence.Downloads
