Abstract

A descriptive longitudinal study aimed at characterizing pregnant adolescents, from a family perspective, was carried out at the Ramón Pando Ferrer Teaching Polyclinic in Santa Clara , Villa Clara province, during the period from April 2008 to March 2009. A sample of 50 pregnant adolescents, which coincided with the population, was chosen with their informed consent. The Caviar test was applied to them, using the psychological indicator concerning family satisfaction, as well as a semistructured interview and a test of perception of family functioning. As a result, it was found that there was disagreement concerning family satisfaction. In general, it was found that there was a high incidence of lack of harmony in the family relationships, and the greatest damage corresponded to the middle stage. The variable concerning the dysfunctional family prevailed; which shows that there was no proper fulfillment of family functions. They were permeated by lack of trust, lack of information about emotional conflicts, lack of solidarity and dissatisfaction with the established links. It is concluded that family dysfunction, disharmonic family relationships and alterations of subjective well-being perceived in relation to family satisfaction in this sample are due to difficulties in role performance, communication, hierarchy, permeability and cohesion of family environment. Therefore, a system of psycho-educational actions is recommended and, from a comprehensive approach as element of psychological adjustment, the participation of family doctors in the care of these pregnant adolescents and their family environment.
