Development of Obstetrics in Santa Clara, Villa Clara
Keywords:
obstetrics/historyAbstract
An investigation was made; it includes the names of many of the doctors who devoted themselves to obstetrics in the province of Villa Clara in the early twentieth century; unlike the nineteenth century, which had very few doctors in this field. It was found that the first obstetric hospital in Villa Clara was inaugurated on 30 December 1928, as well as the Hospital de la Maternidad de Oña in the municipality of Sagua la Grande, which opened that same year. In the municipality of Remedios, it seems there was a wooden hospital, called San Juan de Dios, which provided medical assistance to pregnant women already in 1726. In Placetas, the organized care to pregnant women began to be provided in 1959. The Mariana Grajales Provincial Hospital in Santa Clara was inaugurated on May 25, 1959, just months after the triumph of the Revolution.Downloads
