Keywords:
professional-patient relations, communication, professional roleAbstract
The research was conducted from October 2010 to January 2011 with the aim of proposing a plan of action that contributes to the development of communication in the Surgery Department of the Arnaldo Milian Castro Provincial University Hospital in Villa Clara, and based on the identification of the needs of patients and professionals. It was developed in two stages: from determining the theoretical and methodological foundations underpinning the development of communication and the assessment of the needs related to the subject, to the development of an action plan to help optimize the communication in this department. The subjects and study patients were selected by incidental sampling in the Department of Surgery. In order to identify needs, the criteria of 45 respondents were taken into account, representing 30% of the total research population. The following instruments were applied: semi-structured interviews, questionnaire and educational testing. The data were analyzed from qualitative and quantitative standpoint, and descriptive statistics were used. Among the most relevant results, there is the drafting of a plan of action in seeking ways to optimize the role of health professionals.Downloads
