Abstract

A prospective study was conducted in order to assess the behavior of lipids in a group of infarcted patients, after the acute phase, who attended the cardiology consultation of the Arnaldo Milian Castro Provincial University Hospital in Santa Clara during the period from March to September 2010. We applied a pre- designed interview guide was applied to 56 patients who constituted the sample (purposive sampling). The greatest percentage corresponded to male patients and the most common age was between 60 and 79 years of age. A comprehensive study of serum lipids was conducted. There was a decrease of HDL cholesterol and an increase of LDL cholesterol, as well as an atherogenic risk index and a very high relationship Apo B/Apo AI. Of previous coronary risk factors, the hyperlipidemia, diabetes mellitus and smoking were those who reported greater relationship with disorders in the lipid profile. The association of various risk factors increases the possibility of lipid disorders, which is a tool for a more effective prevention promotion and more effective treatments to reduce the recurrence of an acute myocardial infarction.
