Thrombophilia as a cause of ischemic cerebrovascular disease in childhood
Keywords:
infarction, middle cerebral artery/etiology, thrombophilia, diagnostic imagingAbstract
The incidence of cerebrovascular disease in childhood is low and the diagnosis is very difficult. A patient with unsteady gait who involuntarily drops objects from his hands is presented. Imaging studies were performed. They showed the occurrence of ischemic infarction in the superficial territory of the left middle cerebral artery as manifestation of thrombophilia for a disorder of the Factor V Leiden of clotting, which is considered to be heterozygous due to the presence of a mutated allele. The therapy was based on antiplatelet; later, when the etiology of the event was proven, it was replaced by anticoagulation treatment. The patient evolved successfully.Downloads
