Report of three patients with Amyand’s hernia

Three cases operated on for a rare variety of hernia are reported. It is called Amyand’s hernia. It occurs in 1% of inguinal hernias in adults, and the inflamed appendix has been found in 11 out of 8 962 cases of appendicitis. The diagnosis was carried out in the trans-operative in all cases. All patients evolved well and only one of them required a polypropylene mesh using the Jeans Rives technique, due to the vast destruction of the posterior wall, without post-operative septic complications beyond cellulitis, which was resolved on an outpatient basis. In all three cases the biopsy indicated acute appendicitis within the hernia sac.Downloads
