Ankyloglossia, diagnosis and therapeutic management
Keywords:

Introduction: Dentomaxillofacial anomalies are considered an epidemiological problem of significant importance. Its prevalence can cause oropharyngeal functions and aesthetic alterations in addition to producing profound psychological impacts on the child. Ankyloglossia is a difficulty that is often not taken into account by the dental professional in the clinical examination performed; the countless number of events that are not glimpsed and therefore are not attended in an adequate and timely manner is significant.
Objective: Provide an update on ankyloglossia, its diagnosis and therapeutic management.
Methods: A bibliographic review of the available literature was carried out. The articles were identified through the automated search in the databases: PubMed, SciELO and Google Scholar, in the period from January to June 2024. 45 scientific texts were selected, written in Spanish and English, published between 2019 and 2024. The publication analysis method was used to extract relevant information. The ordering and combination of the collected information was carried out.
Conclusions: The diagnosis of the pathology, the surgical and myofunctional planning must take into account the classification of the frenulum, the patient’s age and the anatomy of the region. Treatment requires a multidisciplinary team to avoid recurrence of the pathology.
