Introduction: Uterine leiomyomas are common benign tumors, rarely giant.Patient information: A 48-year-old patient was treated at the Gynecology Department of Nyanghawe Referral Hospital, Republic of Botswana, for exaggerated abdominal growth of approximately two years' duration. Initially, the origin of the disease was considered to be ovarian based on ultrasound and computed axial tomography results. Exploratory laparotomy revealed a giant uterine leiomyoma of exaggerated dimensions and weight of 12.76 kg. The patient underwent total abdominal hysterectomy with double adnexectomy and omentectomy. There were no intraoperative complications. The postoperative evolution was normal and the patient was discharged on the fourth postoperative day.
Conclusions: Currently, giant uterine myomas are a rare but possible disease and cause diverse symptoms. The histological study reported giant uterine leiomyoma.
