Introduction: Tuberculosis is currently one of the main health problems facing humanity, affecting approximately eleven million people each year. In line with the international situation, and considering the importance of this issue for the Greater Antilles, the authors decided to conduct this research.
Objective: To characterize the behavior of pulmonary tuberculosis between 2020 and 2024.
Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in the Municipality of Santo Domingo. The data was processed primarily using Excel XP and the statistical program SPSS version 11. The results were presented in tables and statistical graphs.
Results: The highest number of diagnosed cases were male, and the highest number of patients were 65 years of age or older. The main risk factors were smoking and alcoholism, and the main symptoms were cough, expectoration, weight loss, and asthenia. In the evaluation of the diagnostic tools for tuberculosis, smear microscopy, X-rays, and culture predominated. The largest number of cases were diagnosed in Secondary Health Care, and based on their clinical-epidemiological progress, nine cases were discharged.
Conclusions: In the Municipality of Santo Domingo, between 2020 and 2024, pulmonary tuberculosis occurred with a total of 13 cases. Those affected were predominantly men and those aged 65 years and older.
